St Johns is a grade 1 listed Georgian building and was falling down. The work involved the general restoration of the building's fabric, subterranean development of an undercroft to include multi-use main hall, kitchen, meeting room and caretakers flat between the strengthened underpinned foundations, landscaping a new garden and car park in a historic context, introduction of new mechnical and electrical services including underfloor heating, and sensitive provision for disability. Original box pews have been retained in a collegiate plan following careful analysis of their development and changes over the years allowing flexible arrangements of chairs to be introduced into the worhsip area. Since then there has been further conservation work and repairs to the historic fabric.
