Within a Conservation Area
This project undertook the complete refurbishment of an 1880s semi-detached house in a conservation area, including lowering the lower ground floor level, creating a dig-down extension beneath the garage to create new housekeeper accommodation, a utility room and an independent entrance. The external terrace was reconfigured to provide direct access from the new open plan kitchen. The ground floor was re-organized as a single, free-flowing reception space wrapping around the central stair. At first floor, a large master bathroom/dressing room replaced a series of smaller rooms. The distinctive interiors are largely contemporary with a very high level of specification and specialist finishes throughout. The material palette was developed in response to client’s leaning towards rich textures and colouring. The stair and living room walls were treated with an artisanal specialist plaster; the kitchen and dining room were dressed in veneered panelling to conceal the appliances and storage and the external wall dressed with distressed mirrors framed in nickel polished beads. The living room features a dark oak and nickel glazed bookcase with a concealed bar. The perimeter of the master bathroom was lined with bespoke wardrobes. At the corners of the room we designed curved doors for WC, steam/shower room and storage.
