Alteration to existing property
Unit G11 , Edinburgh House , 170 Kennington Lane , LONDON , SE11 5DP
Having previously carried out a successful project for our client, we were delighted when asked to meet at their newly purchased property at Patten Road, to discuss an extensive re-design and remodelling of the 5 bedroom Victorian house. Apart from providing the requisite spaces and functions for a family home, we were encouraged to develop a design that had a different feeling and aesthetic to the standard mould, with emphasis on generosity of space. Our concept was to take the Victorian building – and by extending and rearranging it – provide a light filled and expansive layout throughout – a house that feels more spacious on the inside than it appears from the outside! A narrow front reception was given to the entrance hall and a new WC and coats store were introduced into the centre of the floor plan providing separation and privacy from the entrance. The first floor is given to a generous master bedroom suite and a guest suite. Two further bedrooms are at the top of the house with part of the attic storage space being converted into a family bathroom. To the rear of the property we added a new kitchen / dining / family room opening on to the garden. Our design for this addition was formed to provide maximum ceiling heights with generous opening sections. We opted to expose the roof structure, which delivered greater elevation internally and provided the opportunity to glaze between the structural timber beams – lightening the appearance of the roof. The extension is covered with a green sedum roof. The use of structural timber and exposed concrete beams has generated a visually striking building both externally and internally – and one that our client is delighted with!
