Alteration to existing property, Within a Conservation Area
Unit G11 , Edinburgh House , 170 Kennington Lane , LONDON , SE11 5DP
Matthew Giles Architects have revitalised and expanded this three-storey, semi-detached Arts & Crafts style house, nestled in the outer London suburb of Thames Ditton. New, dark timber clad, side and rear ground floor extensions have been designed in conversation with a new garden building that has a similar language to unify the site a whole. The family of six wanted to make their north facing, dark and cramped house more liveable and introduce an abundance of natural light. Therefore, Matthew Giles Architects developed a design that used as much of the existing fabric as possible, which both saved costs and allowed for an innovative, contemporary design that embraces sustainability.
