At County Hall, Material Works provided full architectural services from concept to completion, including the development of a 'light touch' retrofit strategy in the context of the Grade II* Listed building. The designs celebrate the existing building's 'as found' condition, with layers of peeling plaster and exposed masonry left visible at completion. Adopting a low impact design philosophy focused on minimising embodied energy, the design is a test ground for innovative materials and techniques that show an alternative path for workspace retrofit.
