The refurbishment of the Import and Export buildings has brought new life into East India Dock. The works included the addition of a timber atrium structure to the Import building which extended the floor area and modernised the interior. The campus now houses a number of universities and commercial tenants and offers a mixed use student hub with bars, a gym, meeting rooms, lecture theatres and grocery shops. The wider Republic masterplan was completed over a period of five years, with additional projects for fit-out of workspaces and the addition of emergency escape stairs to both buildings ongoing with Material Works. The surrounding landscape has undergone extensive planting and greening upgrades.
