The transformation of an outdated West London office building into a vibrant, high-performance co-working hub for Huckletree showcases a considered, future-focused approach to retrofit. The project reimagines the existing structure with minimal environmental impact, creating a dynamic shared workspace that supports collaboration, wellness and a new era of flexible working. Rather than relying on traditional layouts, the design introduces a diverse range of spatial typologies tailored to contemporary work styles. The ground and top floors are entirely desk-free—dedicated instead to social, collaborative, and informal work settings. These include meeting rooms, lounge areas, a barista bar, and a members’ club space with adaptable partitions that open onto a rooftop terrace. Every design move was guided by circular economy principles and material efficiency. Low-carbon, biodegradable, and closed-loop materials are used extensively—including recycled plastic worktops, dyed timber finishes, wood wool acoustic panels, and 100% recyclable flooring. Graphene-based low-VOC paints and an abundance of planting promote occupant health, while integrated air quality monitoring systems actively manage environmental conditions.
