York Design Award Winner 2011 Extension as Proscenium - ‘The box’ was conceived as a theatrical proscenium (or TV screen?), which the drama of the family life is played out in. The glass facets are curved along a radius centred on thesliding door connecting the house to the extension. They push out into the garden and create a generous feel to the inside space. Externally, the reflection of the garden is broken into pieces. The interface between the inside and outside is distorted and broken. The handmade glazed bricks are coloured in a subtle green, to blend with the existing house and to reflect the changing light.
