Tired of their unused and unattractive conservatory, our clients spotted the potential to breathe life and light into their traditional cottage, bringing a new wow factor into their home. After being inspired whilst browsing the Märraum website, they got in touch and we really clicked. They liked our friendly, honest approach and our ideas for their small but important extension project. Designing an extension to increase the footprint of the cottage’s sitting room, creating a light and open living space. The aim was to achieve a contemporary look that was also crafted with the age of the original cottage in mind. This green-fingered couple also hankered after a view out onto the lush greenery and floral displays outside. The success of this project relied on giving as much space as we could within tight constraints. And punching a hole through the thick original wall of the cottage to maximise the new space made this project a big structural undertaking. Installing a large window, with a recessed window seat, would maximise the views and provide the perfect space to sit and relax. A roof light installed in the flat roof opened the whole room up, flooding it with light. Outside the new extension had to stand on its own merit, as something separate from the original cottage. A clean, crisp edge at the front and wooden cladding gave the contemporary finish the clients were looking for. The design is stunning and for a small extension it really packs a transformational punch. The new room has opened up the client’s living space and the window seat is the perfect place to relax with a morning coffee as the sunlight streams in. The new roof light floods light into the space and outside new garden landscaping has helped the extension blend with its surroundings.
