Wandsworth
£0.5m to £0.99M
Brownfield site, New Build
The design of three terrace houses on a bomb damaged infil site in Wandsworth. The design relates to the existing Victorian street frontage, and residential apartments to the south and west elevations. The height of the houses was determined by the daylight requirement of the adjacent apartments along with the gentle slope across the site giving rise to the staggered set back up the hill. The five bedroom houses retain the conventional layouts of existing terraces with living accommodation on the ground floor and bedrooms above however the ground floor layout is reflected with the kitchen and toilet at the front leading on to a lower ground floor area with high ceilings and split level arrangement opening the main living space directly on to the external gardens. Natural daylight is introduced via large sky lights to the living room and the main stair allowing daylight to filter into the lower floors. Maximizing the usable floor area on site two of the bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms along with a family bathroom. The external materials include an insulated render system, iroko cladding and a patinated zinc roof providing traditional materials expressed in a contemporary manner.
