We were approached by our client in 2023 who were already local to the area and had just purchased the property with huge potential to make into their forever home. Working closely with our clients, the brief was to transform a compact two-storey house into a bright, open and flexible family home. The design reimagines the ground floor as a flowing, open-plan living space, with a modest rear extension and full-width bi-fold doors strengthening the connection to the garden. The interior draws on a rich mid-century inspired palette, combining exposed Iroko beams, plywood, polished concrete and limewashed walls, unified by bespoke joinery that integrates storage, seating and workspace. Externally, the extension responds sensitively to its context, with carefully detailed brickwork and a wet cast stone parapet, developed in collaboration with the Dulwich Estate. Marjoram Architects delivered the project from RIBA Stages 1–6, working closely with our clients and specialist suppliers to realise a cohesive and carefully crafted home.
