Located in the charming seaside town of Deal, the brief was to redevelop an unassuming terrace house on the outskirts of the Conservation Area. Retaining the existing street facing facade, the proposed design rethinks the internal environment completely extending out to the rear with a contemporary single storey extension. At ground floor the floor is lowered to create more generous headroom and is linked to the existing upper floor with an open timber finned staircase. Internally, materials are used in an honest way to create a warm and contemporary environment which is flooded with natural daylight. A polished concrete floor is complimented with exposed painted brickwork, exposed Douglas Fir joists and a bespoke plywood kitchen. While a large feature window with integrated bespoke joinery window links a newly formed outside courtyard to the main living / dining / kitchen space.
