New Build
Mæ was appointed, with Duggan Morris Architects and Avanti Architects, following an invited competition run by the London Borough of Camden. The project is a 93 dwelling estate regeneration of the Tybalds Estate in London WC1, infilling underused spaces with new build apartments and houses and improved public realm. The development seeks to protect existing qualities such as the open play space on Orde Hall St as valuable amenity, the gaps and framed views of neighbouring streets, and the quality and texture of the boundary wall and trees that overhang it. Our proposals creates clear new routes which aid navigability through the site and give existing buildings a street address, it aims to create better defined & overlooked public spaces, and creates new mews houses & mid rise blocks which have a relationship with public space. The architecture is rooted in its history and materiality, core to re-establishing a future connected architectural grain.
