Newham
Strand East will be an ambitious new 26 acre neighbourhood in Stratford, East London. Comprising around 1200 homes and 58,000sq.m of business space the development, by Vastint, is intended to build on the industrial character of the area, enhance its unique peninsula setting and compliment the nearby historic tidal mills. Mæ is appointed to design plot R6, the first of the residential block types that will characterise much of the development. R6 will have 103 dwellings made up of over 40% family housing. The building is a perimeter block of generously proportioned lateral apartments with a pair of flats to each landing. Flats are dual aspect with minimum 2.7m floor to ceiling heights and floor areas above the London Housing Design Guide requirements. A mews of houses sits within the depth of the block. The scheme is designed to an efficient structural grid and to use modern methods of construction along with texturally rich and precision engineered precast concrete wall panels.
