Waltham Forest
New Build
Mæ was selected to join East Thames Group's framework of architects in early 2006, and since then has worked with them on a number of significant projects. Our most significant housing design project for East Thames was at Hammond Court, a 55 unit residential scheme in Walthamstow, East London. For this scheme, comprising a mixture of rental, private sale and shared ownership units, we have designed a development that has a strong sense of place and attractive architecture, creating a people friendly environment with forward thinking design. A perimeter block of houses and apartments steps up to four storeys on Blackhorse Road and encloses a quiet, south facing courtyard with private gardens, balconies and shared garden. Our design provides privacy and security through defensible space to the front of each house and inset balconies. Usable amenity space is created by provision of green space, both private and communal. The units themselves have flexible interiors to cater for flexible lifestyles. Private entrances and consistent space standards mean any unit is suitable for any tenure and utility space and storage is included in all house types. It is an architecture that offers well-made, high quality places to live rather than one of novelty and sensation, and the good proportions, clean lines, large picture windows and careful detailing create an architecture of distinction.
