Brownfield site, New Build
Mæ have been appointed for the second phase of the Brentford Lock West regeneration development by Waterside Places. The scheme will be designed under the framework of an approved outline masterplan. The project is part of the wider regeneration of this brownfield site on the canal. The second phase will create a total of 157 residential units, including six town houses and commercial space. The scheme draws its inspiration from the broader context. Six pavilion buildings have distinct saw-tooth roof forms that make reference to the neighbouring wharf architecture. Terraces of town houses and inhabited bridges link the pavilions and enclose a resident garden. The project is designed around the following principles: - Gables and garden walls. A distinct roof-line at the top and a continuous garden wall at the base help to ground the buildings and enhance the skyline - Loggias and courtyards. A deep façade creates outdoor rooms for flats, whilst houses have landscaped courtyards that act as a threshold to the street - Pavilions and bridges. Apartment pavilions form distinct corners and are linked by terraces houses or inhabited bridges - Vistas. The visual relationship to the canal is optimized with buildings positioned to frame views to the water.
