The Urgent Care Centre is a key component as the first phase of the wider proposals for the redevelopment of the Willowbrook Health Cares facilities for Corby. This in turn will potentially be the catalyst for the regeneration of the whole site. The centre provides patients access to a wider range of diagnostic facilities such as endoscopies, x-ray, ultrasound and the ability to undertake a wide range of day case surgery, which will enable patients to be treated closer to home. The main design concept for the UCC took influence from Corby’s industrial evolution of the steelwork industry and its future aspirations to promote the ancient woodland surrounding the town. This developed a simple concept of a metal clad element (Corby’s past) embracing a natural timber element and its landscaped surroundings (Corby’s future). Through use of building forms, materials and internal finishes this concept has influenced the design of the building.
