maber are appointed as architects, interior designers, space planners and landscape architects for a new project for Aero Engine Controls who will shortly be a wholly owned subsidiary of Rolls-Royce plc. The 300,000 sqft new facility with up to 1660 employees will be located on Birmingham Business Park and will replace AEC’s existing two plants in the Hall Green area. The high tech facility will house offices, laboratories, manufacturing and test areas in an integrated overall design that brings together the formerly separate functions. Cleanliness, openness, flexibility and a high level of daylight are key requirements of the brief. AEC wanted a new facility that would reflect the high tech nature of their business, showcase their products and retain and recruit the highest calibre of staff, vital to the competitive nature of aircraft engine control systems. The proposed design is an entirely bespoke building, tailored to the needs and requirements of AEC, incorporating some innovative solutions to create a fully integrated office and manufacturing facility and addressing the highly challenging requirements of the brief. The proposal has provided a clear and simple solution to a difficult and complex building type, which will contribute to the efficiency of AEC's operations now and into the future.
