Listed Building - Grade II
The former Grade II Listed hosiery buildings are an important landmark in Leicester's history and are thought to be the first of their kind in the City. A period of functional obsolescence led to severe deterioration of this group of Grade II listed buildings. The City Council purchased the site with a view to transforming this into a hub for contemporary industrial processes, which would be consistent with the heritage of the building. The scheme provides 771sqm of floor area total, split across 10no. units. Tenants are made up from various industrial backgrounds, ranging from furniture, painting, sculpture/pottery, textiles to fashion. The majority of units (c.70%) were pre-let before the building officially opened in early 2013. The tenants have independent wash facilities, and large flexible workspaces/workshops. The building provides shared facilities including a communal kiln room and external courtyard areas and access throughout the building has been improved with the insertion of a new lift and stair core to provide access for all.
