In 2002 Lyster Grillet & Harding Ltd were appointed by Thurrock Council to undertake a feasibility study for the design of a new secondary school for 1800 11-16 year old pupils in two phases. Initially operating on a split site the new Gateway Community College came into being in September 2003 resulting from the amalgamation of two existing schools in Grays and Tilbury both of which were under capacity and in special measures. The project subsequently became an Academy The Gateway Academy has been constructed on a site North of Tilbury and was designed for construction in two phases. The first for 1200 pupils, with core facilities for the second phase which extends capacity to up to 1800, 11-19 pupils. Initially appointed for feasibility and outline design, LGH Ltd’s appointment under the DFE Academy Framework was extended to cover detailed planning and traditional procurement during 2003-2004. The project incorporates additional accommodation for extended use. LGH are currently working with a major National Framework Contractor on the Gateway Primary Free School with construction commencing on site January 2013.
