Alteration to existing property, Listed Building - Grade I, New Build, Within a Conservation Area
The Old Vicarage in Northumberland is a Grade II listed Georgian property soon to be renovated to a high modern standard, while retaining its core Georgian period features. The site is set on the edge of the village and has commanding views towards the Cheviot Hills. The immediate surrounding area consists of apple orchards, mixed woodlands and arable fields. The countryside is criss-crossed with public footpaths. The house has a fantastic south facing formal garden in the French style. The extension lies at the west end of the extraordinary south elevation of the house. The church is just west of the property and the extension overlooks the church and the graveyard. The proposed project would remove an existing oil tank at the side of the property and create a transition space from the garage on the lower level, stepping up to the kitchen at ground floor level. This glazed structure would include changing room and shower facilities, thus creating privacy at the lower level while allowing light into the space and providing views of the beauty of the surrounding area. ?
