The Government Rental Housing scheme in Gibraltar is intended to provide 492 units for rent by the Government of Gibraltar, along with associated parking and facilities. The design calls for six blocks of six or eight storey height, arranged around an inner courtyard. The primary idea is to create a welcoming environment with graduated levels of privacy from the street level, to the podium, to within the blocks and finally to the apartments themselves. The seafront promenade will be continued from the nearby Kings Wharf development and views are maintained through the blocks in order that the scheme is seen as open and permeable. A Social Centre will be provided as part of phase 1 of the development and public space and art are an integral part of the design. Lovelockmitchell were commissioned by the Government of Gibraltar to take the scheme from inception to Stage F, at which point the Contractor appointed them to provide construction support.
