The design provided an innovative response to a complicated brown-field site. It had previously housed gasometers and has a stream running though it. We sought to retain the links with the adjacent communities while creating a bold urban solution to a primary road running past one end of the site. Many sustainable design features have been incorporated into the scheme including cycle storage for residents to encourage more cycle use and less car use, on-site communal recycling facilities, higher levels of insulation for the external envelopes and natural cross ventilation.
