Lovelock Mitchell was involved in the construction of a brand new ?3.3 million primary school for Cheshire East Council in Macclesfield. Christ the King Catholic & CofE Primary School is the amalgamation of St Edwards Catholic Primary School and St Barnabas CofE Primary School. The new school draws on our partnering experience to deliver a purpose built facility to accommodate approximately 210 pupils in a modern teaching environment. The new school has 7 classrooms, nursery, hall, kitchen, toilets, a staffroom and other associated facilities. The hall is the heart of the school with the classrooms wrapping around two sides, facing outwards onto the playground with a large external terrace area creating an external extension to the classrooms. The intermediate space between the hall and the classrooms provides a flexible multi-use space for circulation, group spaces, practical areas and the library. The openness of this 'street' aims to promote interaction between all ages of children to achieve an overall cohesive school. The Project is being assessed under the BREEAM education scheme and the School is currently on target to achieve the rating of very good.
