New Build
The brief was for a new extension and remodeling to an existing house situated within Throop village. We designed the rear contemporary extension to replace an existing conservatory so to allow the kitchen to be moved from the front of the house to the rear. This involved remodeling the interior to also allow the dining area to be moved to the extension area overlooking the garden. The extension was structurally supported using a Glulam timber portal frame and free spanning timber ridge beam. This was designed to make a feature out of the structure when seen from the inside. The walls were constructed as a timber frame and were highly insulated for thermal and acoustic efficiency. Concealed LED lighting was detailed to sit in a recess to the vaulted ceiling line. A powder coated aluminium secret gutter system was incorporated into the top of the walls, and the building was clad in Siberian Larch and natural slate.
