Competition winning concept designs for a new exhibition and learning space within Leeds City Art Gallery. An installation to support and encourage learning about 'mark making' through hands-on creative activities - drawing, painting, sculpting, and digital media and through looking, discussion, reading, watching, listening. We have proposed two elements, one of which unfolds to form a table, where 'mark making' is celebrated by the surface pattern of the table, envisaged as being generated through collective activity, akin to a community 'quilt'. The second element is a sculptural form serving as a three-dimensional notebook - allowing for ongoing recording of drawings, comments & suggestions and inviting visitors to leave their mark.
