Masterplanning, Design and Implementation of of New Airport Passenger Terminal, Airport Infrastructure, Control Tower, Aircraft Hangers and other uses on the site. The first major build project at the airport was to redesign the main passenger terminal. The previous capacity was for 0.5million passengers per anum (MPPA) which was wholly insufficient for the projected throughput. LRW worked closely with the client to provide a terminal capable for 4.5mppa; all of which was designed and constructed around a live airport. The original terminal was consumed within the new building; adding a greater level of complexity in retaining the passenger experience during construction. Following on from the first phase there have now been a total of 6 phases at Liverpool with the capacity now at over 6mppa. Future phases are in the pipeline and with the continued growth at the airport we do not see the physical growth abating. TNT FACILITY: The Integrated Distribution Depot at Liverpool Airport was a major addition to the overall development of the perimeter to the airport. The depot was a major undertaking linking airside with landside to provide a swift despatching of cargo arriving by air. The depot itself was one of the larger developments used by TNT and incorporated both an administrative centre alongside the parcel despatch service. The warehouse and integrated offices have a footprint of 3000m² approx, catering for all the TNT delivery vehicles including on site maintenance. The site also encompasses the ancillary items required by TNT to service a development of this size including refuelling station, lorry wash facilities and dolly train drive through. The development has also been fitted with a state of the art security system due to its direct link to the adjoining airport runways. CONTROL TOWER: As part of the growth of LJLA a new control tower was required on the south side of the runway. Leach Rhodes Walker designed and implemented the new facility which includes a conference suite below the viewing platform.
