This pair of Georgian houses was divided into nine flats in the 1950s. We removed the glut of poor alterations while uncovering what was historically valuable about the space and the original architectural detailing. We created four, generous, new flats spanning the building from front to rear, achieving clearer spatial arrangement, orientation and navigation. The quality of ventilation and light in each flat was immediately improved. Newly designed lifts, staircases and internal hallways are comfortably spacious and main living areas are all fitted with high level heating and lighting, high quality surface materials, communication ports and high-tech sound systems. We balanced the new elements with retained features to achieve much needed coherence to the architecture.
