Commissioned by London Borough of Southwark Landolt + Brown in collaboration with architect trained artist Wendy Hardie managed to develop a highly contextual, innovative design response based on Rye Lane’s rich and dynamic cultural and architectural heritage. The scheme will see refurbished railway arches and a two storey roof extension to an art deco building which includes a tropical roof garden and large rusted metal planters. Existing arcade building located between railway arches will be demolished as part of the scheme which will create a vibrant mix of spaces for local traders, bars, cafes and new community facilities with immersive landscaping and biodiversity at the core of the project. The project is due to start on side later this year 2016.
