The new station concourse was constructed on the footprint of the existing station and utilisation of the existing subway, requiring complex sequencing to maintain continual operations during all stages of work. The ticketing and gating facilities had to be contained within a very low volume. To form a more legible and uplifting entrance to the station Landolt + Brown developed a translucent glass double-height entrance volume, using later of graduating green glass. The building incorporates new ticket gates, customer information services, ticket office facilities and staff welfare and is fully integrated with a commercial/residential oversite building designed by another architect.
