The re-use, conversion and development of a former Arkwright Cotton Mill, transforming it into a new, state-of-the-art modern Academy with associated landscaped campus and sports facilities, sustainable construction and technologies, new build teaching block, and engineering workshops and labs in line with the Academy’s status as the UK’s first University Technical College focused on delivering high quality engineering and business education. The mill’s regeneration was an extremely complex, £22m project, which involved sensitive restoration of the Grade 2* listed structure, the addition of sympathetic but contemporary new buildings, comprehensive landscape design, interior design and space planning and specialist facilities.
