The site is located on the banks of the river Thames, within an area subject to frequent flooding caused by the river’s overflowing. For this reason, the project envisages all the habitable residential units’ habitable areas on the first and second floors, leaving only the entrances and private car parks on the ground floor. The scheme sits horizontally between the river and the sky. It doesn’t impose its presence; it just whispers its existence. The raised floor functions like the actual ground floor, a car-free space usable by the inhabitants and families where children can play freely and without danger while adults have the opportunity to socialize with each other, creating the foundations for a stable community, enjoying the intimate connection between buildings, public spaces and greenery. A public swimming pool directly overlooks the river, creating a visual connection between the external and internal waters where people can swim and exercise.
