Bromley
Within a Conservation Area
The building sits within the boundaries of the Chislehurst conservation area, and two trees are covered by Tree Preservation Orders (TPO) inside the property. The aim was to keep the building sustainable and reduce waste. We, therefore, preserved the garage's existing brick wall and reused the original roof tiles for the first-floor extension. For the cladding, we used timber, slightly charred with a traditional Japanese technique called Yakisugi. The method prolongs the life of the wood cladding, making it resistant to fire, infestation and decay.
