We had the opportunity to refurbish this large, semi-detached house in Winchester – a project that fuses historic detail and contemporary architecture for a distinctive family home. Care and attention have been paid to the traditional proportions of the house, and the ornate cornices have been carefully reinstated. These historic elements to the front of the house are a striking juxtaposition with the modern glass extension at the rear, which features sleek Crittall windows that bathe the interior with natural light. This, along with new roof lights that have been installed, enriches the living spaces. It was the client’s wish that we restore this property in a way that was sensitive to its surroundings while creating a practical base for their busy, young family.
