Alteration to existing property, Within a Conservation Area
Lakeside is part of a 15 house Royston Summers modernist scheme first built in the 1960s and a conversation area. The clients brief to L+ Architects' Principal Designer, Pablo Lambrechts, was to modernise the interior and to sound proof and insulate this building to bring it up to the 21st Century. The clients wanted an interior of stunning, sublime elegance that respected the history of the house, using Noble materials, and by replacing the central 60s staircase for a more elegant and understated stair. Located in Esher, Surrey, this elegant house has had its modernism modernised. Pablo Lambrechts, our Principal Architect at L+ Architects, swept away the wooden cladding and replaced the system with elegant vertical fins that are mirrored throughout the ground floor. The cantilevered staircase seems to float ethereally in the atrium and is a place to display art and to read. A state of the art kitchen in rose gold and wood combines simplicity of lines whilst respecting the intentions of the earlier architect Royston Summers.
