This detached three-bedroom home required sensitive design that respects the streetscene as it sits next to a Victorian church which is designated as a heritage asset, within a conservation area. The house replaced a double garage that had previously occupied the site. The main living space is placed in a basement in order to reduce the required height of the structure and associated visual impact. A sunken courtyard brings natural light into the basement to improve the living environment and reduce the need for artificial lighting and the dining room opens onto an additional terrance at the back of the property. The ground floor houses the kitchen and dining area and the top floors hold three bedrooms with generous built-in storage, a bathroom and separate shower room.
