Listed Building - Grade II, Within a Conservation Area
Tremough Innovation Centre , Penryn Campus , Penryn , Cornwall , TR10 9TA , United Kingdom
In 2012, Koha Architects won a shortlisted architectural design competition for the heritage restoration and Change of Use of a Grade II listed former School House in Truro, Cornwall. The project aimed to transform the historic building into a vibrant mixed-use Arts, Music and Education Centre while preserving its architectural and cultural significance. Koha Architects were appointed to lead the project through all stages, from concept to completion, delivering a sensitive and sustainable approach to the adaptive reuse of this landmark structure. One of the most significant interventions was the restoration and conversion of the original school hall into a fully functional concert hall, providing a new performance and cultural venue for the local community. The design also introduced a striking double-height exhibition space and opened up the South-West Archway, creating a bright and welcoming public entrance that enhanced the connection between the building, the adjacent Green, and the nearby Cathedral. Construction began on site in 2014, marking the start of a major transformation of this historically significant building into a thriving centre for arts, music, and education.
