The brief from the client was to create a designated stand alone living area within the loft space which could accommodate an independent bedroom area and ensuite as well as generous living space which had some cooking and dining facilities. We provided numerous options for the client to maximise the potential space which included hip to gable conversions as well as side dormer alternatives. The client wanted to retain the symmetrical aesthetic of the semi-detached roof so they decided to proceed with a side dormer. The rear dormer has a gable fronted, floor to ceiling glazed section which increases the amount of natural light within the main living area but also gives great views out to the garden and beyond. The space behind the gable is vaulted, creating a 4 metre high ceiling which is very dramatic for any living space, but in particular in a loft conversion.
