Mark Kitson has been involved in the Newton Aycliffe Refurbishment Masterplan for many years including working on all the previous construction phases. KITSON Architecture was appointed in early 2013 to deliver the next phase of the multimillion pound masterplan, transforming the retail centre of this 1950s new town. The scheme includes the opening up of the shopping street by the removing a large pedestrian ramps and oppressive canopies and laying down new, high-quality paving and street furniture including bespoke granite benches with etched graphic panels depicting the rich local history. Completed in Autumn 2013 the urban realm is now a safe, inviting space where shoppers can dwell and enjoy the time they spend in Newton Aycliffe.
