Within a Conservation Area, New Build, Sited in AONB
A new purpose-built museum and village hall at the entrance to the village of Kimmeridge, near Wareham in Dorset. It houses the Etches Collection, the Museum of Jurassic Marine Life, "a unique, modern museum of amazing fossils - the marine life of the Jurassic coast", and a Scientific Centre for Excellence and Learning in a "world class museum", close to where the fossils were unearthed. The building facing the street is of local Purbeck stone. Cut into the hillside, the courtyard entrance is expressed in boardmarked concrete and has a top-lit, double-height entrance, leading up to a lofty cross laminated timber exhibition gallery and multi-purpose village hall/learning centre, with access to learning terraces.
