An extension to a group of warehouses used as sculptors' studios and ancillary residential accommodation. The design re-uses the Victorian building and perimeter walls whilst the new building of black blockwork and galvanised steel creates a new courtyard at first floor level, new studios and workshop, enlarged living areas, a new entrance and two new flats. The existing brick building was refurbished in 2005 and both phases were partially self-built by the sculptors. A terne-coated Steel mansard has been added. Extensive internal alterations have transformed the studios and living accommodation into interconnected spaces with intriguing transitions from indoors to out.
