The aim of the Isleworth & Hounslow Charity is to provide affordable housing for the poor and the elderly - spinsters/widows, batchelors/widowers and where husband and wife will not be separated. Our brief was to replace the existing poor quality accommodation on the site to meet Lifetime Homes, HQIs, Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 and the Homes and Communities Agency Design and Quality Standards. The development consists of 20 one and two bedroom wheelchair accessible self contained affordable rent apartments, a resident’s community room, staff facilities, offices and communal gardens. A simple L shaped building with a central through corridor has been designed to sit centrally on the site. A high quality building has been created to enhance the character of the context and make a positive contribution to the Conservation Area. Photovoltaic panels are installed on the roof to provide 20% on site renewable energy in line with the London Borough of Hounslow’s Local Plan policy requirements
