New Build
60 dwellings comprising a mix of two and three storey houses and apartment buildings adjacent to and addressing the Pigeonhouse ‘Wildlife Corridor and Greenway’. The site lies on the eastern edge of the greenway, a public open space that follows the line of a watercourse that extends from the Malago up to Dundry Down, South Bristol. The site is dominated by five residential tower blocks arranged in crescent formation to the east of the site. To the south of the site lies the edge of the urban development of Hartcliffe and the beginnings of the rural landscape of Dundry Down. Two storey houses occupy the northern end of the site while the southern end is developed with split level houses that are designed to accommodate the gradient at this location. At the focal point of the site, where the homezone meets the main access road, flats rise to three storeys. Their superior height, the use of brighter colours and the adoption of a more distinctive architectural style brings the development to a climax that acts as a visual counterpoint to the River of Life Church and establishes it as a focal point and centre of gravity for the development. The project received the Bristol Building Excellence ‘Best Housing’ Award in 2012
