We were appointed to take this project from feasibility stage to hand-over using a traditional procurement route. The design, for a prominent brownfield site in Henbury, adopted the recently developed contemporary store type. The approach is a conscious departure from the ‘gable front’ retail shed and the neo vernacular ‘big bungalow’ look, typified by other discount food retailers. The scale and setting of the new store was carefully considered so as to make a positive contribution to the streetscape; the generous areas of glazing facing Crow Lane provide an interesting frontage particularly when illuminated at night.
