Within a Conservation Area
The brief for this maisonette was a full refurbishment, internal remodelling and conversion of the loft into a bedroom with ensuite bathroom and new staircase. The chosen design solution reconfigured the existing spaces in order to accommodate an additional bedroom without the need to extend. This also included the partial removal of the loft floor in order to create double height spaces in the living, kitchen and dining areas. The resulting design created bright, open and modern spaces. Due to budgetary constraints, existing elements of the house were retained and retrofitted as opposed to being built from scratch. This was applied to nearly all areas of the house, including staircase, kitchen and existing wardrobes. This period home was brought to life and reimagined in a modern and minimalist design, while the retention of existing elements were used as markers of the buildings period history, resulting in a modern yet sympathetic approach.
