Alteration to existing property, Listed Building - Grade II, Within a Conservation Area
The project seeks to rebuild a previous ground floor and basement extension to the rear of the property in a slightly enlarged format. The proposal appears as a single storey extension in nearly all views as the basement elevation is sunken and largely concealed by the party wall. Due to the existing building being Grade II Listed the proposal had to put particular emphasis on a sensitive approach despite the addition of a large structure. The iterative design process, in collaboration with the client, focused on minimising impact to the existing building whilst achieving the clients design brief and requirements. Externally the building is clad in brickwork with large glazed openings framing elements of the existing heritage asset whilst also allowing a stronger connection to the rear garden. The basement extension below allowed for a generous master bedroom with ensuite bathroom and walk-in wardrobe space.
