Completed in 2018, Hoxton Press forms the third phase of the Colville Estate Masterplan for Hackney Council and creates 198 private sale homes that co-fund the construction of affordable, medium-rise dwellings across the estate. The project is a joint collaboration between Karakusevic Carson Architects and David Chipperfield Architects and forms part of the council’s progressive housebuilding programme that is directly delivering hundreds of much-needed homes for local people. The design of two hexagonal buildings of 16-and 20-storeys responds to the small and irregular plot of land overlooking Shoreditch Park, and an ambition to create a series of dual-aspect dwellings on the inside. The two buildings are rotated in relation to one another to maximise daylight, views, and to minimise overlooking and loss of light to neighbouring buildings, creating a dynamic composition that addresses its urban context in all directions. A landscaped space is set in between the two buildings, creating a threshold between the park and the new Colville neighbourhood.
