Our third SEN school for The Education Partnership Trust portfolio is their most ambitious yet and demonstrates their commitment to providing a bespoke approach to the teaching tailored to the headteacher's vision. Our proposed design supports 150 Alternative Provision Free School pupils aged from 5 to 16 situated on green-belt land between the M65 and Burnley's inner suburbs. The school's layout provides for a clear separation between primary and secondary school children, joined by a series of shared spaces for assembly, sports and dining. The shallow L-shaped plan maximises the benefits of natural light and ventilation. 3D noise modelling was used during the design stages to ensure the building protects the external play spaces from motorway noise. Secondary school children are given a traditional approach to Science, Arts and Media teaching, supported by vocational courses in construction, catering, hair and beauty spaces. Through careful planning, consultation and consideration of the headteacher's vision, we married ESFA's BB104 and FOS specifications with a bespoke approach to Burnley's unique teaching needs and objectives.
