76 London Road, London, SE23 The Clients of this private home, appointed me as their Architect to provide them with a new lower ground floor single-storey rear extension, which they wanted to make full use of the rear width of the dwelling, but wanted the structure to sit in harmony with the garden and the house, without appearing as a regular box extension. The garden had several mature trees that also adorned the neighbouring boundaries and wanted to be able to feel in context with the tree canopies whilst relaxing within their day room. The extension is in part a folly, as the right hand roof over sails a returning side terrace to create the illusion that the extension spans full width of the property, which has a section of the roof removed to correspond with the two sky light roof penetrations within the extension, that possess both sliding recessed and bi-folding doors to open out onto the surrounding terrace, where the roof acts as a wing with the experience of living in and outside.
