The High Street 2012 project, sponsored by the London Borough Tower Hamlets, seeks to upgrade and refurbish the external appearance of sections of historic and significant streetscapes within Tower Hamlets, as part of London 2012, the year of the London Olympics. Working in collaboration with existing tenants and occupiers, the project seeks to strategically spend public funds to provide considered and historically sympathetic refurbishments of existing facades and shopfronts. The projects consists of several phases of work up to and including the Olympic period and aims to leave a longstanding legacy after the Games themselves while at the same time elevating the experience of the day to day users of these London streets and access routes.
